For many, the day begins before sunrise with a long walk to a distant pond or river, carrying a heavy jerry can back over rocky ground. The water they collect is often the same water animals drink from, and it can carry the diseases that keep children out of school and parents out of work.
charity: water partners with local organizations to change that, one community at a time. Together they drill wells, protect springs, build rainwater systems, and install taps, then train the community to maintain them for the long haul. Sensors on many of the new wells send back real data so a broken pump gets fixed instead of quietly failing.
